In bad weather
What do you do in Egmond aan Zee when it rains?
Even a rainy day leaves you plenty to do — and on the coast it often rains just that bit less, so between showers you are back on the beach in no time. Browse the shopping street, which is open every day, or go bowling, play pool or visit the sauna — literally around the corner from our houses. Or stay in: our houses are full of games, from 30 Seconds and Catan to Rummikub and Uno, and for the little ones Lego, Duplo, Kapla, puzzles and picture books. Light the fire, and in winter share a Dutch 'gourmet' dinner at the table grill. The grill sets are in the garage, for guests of both houses.
The beach
What makes Egmond's beach special?
Egmond's wide beach is made for long walks — along the sand you can walk all the way to Bergen aan Zee, or the other way to the beach of Egmond-Binnen. The coast faces due west: on every clear evening the sun sinks into the sea. And with the beach literally across the road, a refreshing morning dip before breakfast is easily done. Feeling active? There is surfing, kitesurfing and horse riding here, and the beach pavilions line up for coffee and cake or drinks afterwards.

Active & the dunes
Can you cycle and walk in Egmond aan Zee?
Absolutely. Egmond lies in the middle of the North Holland Dune Reserve, one of the most beautiful dune areas in the Netherlands — the dunes stretch out on both sides of the village. Kilometres of walking and cycling paths through marram grass, dune lakes and pine woods, and from your front door you walk straight in. Mountain bikers will find the region's best-known trail in Schoorl, through the highest dunes in the Netherlands.

What does a perfect weekend in Egmond look like?
A weekend with us runs from Friday to Monday. This is how to make the most of it — at your own pace, everything within walking distance.
15:00 check-in. First a quick walk onto the beach — it is fifty metres. Then a lovely first evening at home: cooking together (fresh fish from the fishmonger around the corner), drinks by the fire or at the high table, and then everyone around the dinner table.
A refreshing morning dip in the sea before breakfast, then a long breakfast together. After that a good walk and lunch at a beach pavilion — or walk on to Bergen aan Zee.
